Bucks Council plans to invest £10.5 million in flood resilience projects between 2025 and 2027. The funding will support the council’s Flood Capital Programme, which includes various flood resilience and alleviation efforts.
The new measures aim to reduce the risk of flooding from surface water, watercourses, and groundwater for over 200 residential properties in Buckinghamshire, particularly in the most flood-affected communities.
Councillor Thomas Broom emphasized the increasing flood risks due to climate change, highlighting the importance of investing in flood resilience. He noted, “With record rainfall last year and recent heavy downpours causing flooding, it’s crucial we help make communities more resilient.”
The £10.5m investment will be spent over three years, funding projects such as:
- Newt Ditch watercourse improvements (East Marlow)
- Pednormead End culvert replacement and Property Flood Resilience (Chesham)
- Thomas Harding School Sustainable Drainage Systems (SuDS) Retrofit
- Flood alleviation projects in Sands, West Marlow, and Tingewick
- Natural Flood Management in the Buckinghamshire (Thames) catchment and River Leck to slow water flow using nature-based solutions.
